Sharing Your Thoughts with Someone Could Make a Difference

Updated: May 9, 2021

One day I met a man who kept secrets from his past to himself. This man had no friends. Where were his friends? Why didn’t this man ever feel the need to get close enough to people? Why did he prefer to be alone?

I felt very privileged and honoured the day he chose to open up to me and invite me into his world. His story was filled with pain, sorrow, heartache and sadness. Even though his friends were no more, this man continued to exist in life even though a cloud of unimaginable misery and torture was never far behind.

Talking to me that day was never going to fix the damage that had been done however speaking about it and sharing his anguish as opposed to harbouring those feelings alone and in silence, was a step in the right direction.

By speaking about his past with me the man was given the rare opportunity to offload for the first time.

Sharing your troubled thoughts with someone you trust can be the difference between feeling weighed down and alone and understanding that there are people out there who want to help and support you. It's that missing piece you may need to take that step closer into feeling a sense of calm, clarity, peace and relief. It is not fair for us as humans to feel alone, trapped by our thoughts and torturing ourselves with this kind of torment.
